Perhaps

In the two verses of the day, we find the expression "perhaps", which marks the uncertainty about the expected result. We may be surprised to find it when God speaks. He is Almighty God, he knows the end of a thing before it begins (Isaiah 46.10). But these "maybe" enlighten us on how God deals with us. He offers us a path, invites us to follow it, and awaits our response. At the same time, these "maybe" remind us that we are responsible creatures with the capacity to make choices and to discern right and wrong.

About 2,600 years ago, God asked his prophet Jeremiah to warn the people of Israel (first verse quoted). But the human heart is stubborn and hard as a stone. God will have to see that the people he loves refuse to listen and obey.

Then he sends Jesus, his only begotten Son, to earth to speak to us : Perhaps they will respect my beloved Son. “We paid no heed to him,” as another prophet predicted (Isaiah 53. 3). Jesus was put to death, crucified. But he rose again, death was conquered. Whoever believes in him obtains eternal life. Today God is still patient. His goodness prompts everyone to repent and turn to Jesus for free forgiveness. God loves you and asks you dearly. He shows you the way to salvation. Listen to him without hesitation, because "This saying is sure and worthy of being accepted without reservation : Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners" (1 Timothy 1.15).
