Pieces of string !

Matthew 27.5 - Judas threw the silver coins into the temple, and withdrew, and went and hanged himself.

If you listen to sermons regularly, you will notice that many of them are based on a series of verses put together to find some truth. It's a way to bring the Word, and that's not the problem. The problem begins when we want to demonstrate a truth that we have fabricated by relying on a series of verses taken out of context and especially not taking into account the consistency of all Scripture.

I'll give you a rough example : let's take our basic text. Judas went to take himself: is this an example to follow ? I take Luke 10:37 : "And Jesus said to him : Go, and you, do the same". Oh, well I'm going, but the rope to hang me is not holding. What do I do ? I take Luke 15.7 : “there will be more joy in heaven for one sinner who repents”... So I am leaving for my second attempt. You smile, that's ridiculous, and neither do some of the messages.

“All Scripture is inspired of God, and useful to teach, to convince, to correct, to instruct in righteousness” tells us 2 Timothy 3:16. I love the absolute of "everything" ! If I want to be balanced and supported by the truth, I must take into account all of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation. This of course requires having taken the time to read the whole Bible and even several times, and why not in different versions, to be modeled by It. It is at this "price" that we will be armed to resist false doctrines, each more attractive than the other, and that we will no longer be blown away by the doctrines of deceitful men (Ephesians 4:14).

The Word of God is the Word of God ! If two passages seem contradictory, that means I have to go up a notch or two to understand. Without this caution, I risk believing in pseudo truths : a kind of mixture of right and wrong. I challenge you to take a bottle of pure, healthy water and add a teaspoon of petroleum to it : are you going to drink it ? It's the same with these truncated messages, it seems true but it will do some damage.

I appeal to those who bring the Word : Beloved, be careful in your teaching ! Do not hesitate to confront your beliefs with others so that you can carry a pure, unadorned message that will be solid, balanced and powerful food for your audience.
