What a sad day as the funeral of John the Baptist ! The forerunner of the Messiah was beheaded by the will of a tyrant manipulated by a corrupt woman. Some of his followers have the courage to pick up his body for burial piously. And now, what would he stay ? They followed the prophet is no more. Then they turn to Jesus, whom John announced : Jesus, the Lamb of God.
What pain for Jesus also learned of the death of that which, some time ago he had made an exceptional testimony : "more than a prophet ... he has been aroused no greater" (Matt 11. 9. -11). The perfect man is faced with the death of one of his relatives and his attitude can be an example to the believers who go through mourning.
- "Having learned, Jesus withdrew from there by boat into a desert place apart" (Matthew 14. 13.). The first reaction, after a painful separation, is often to seek solitude. This is a normal attitude, healthy, but should have a time. Otherwise, we run the risk of keeping her grief and mourn for themselves.
- "[Jesus] saw a great crowd he had compassion for them and healed their sick" (Matthew 14. 14.). The punishment of the Lord does not make him forget others and their needs. The departed does not need anything ; however, those around us may suffer and arouse our compassion. Place yourself through suffering to a better understanding of others.
- "He went up the mountain, away to pray" (Matthew 14. 23.). This grief, Jesus does not care for him, but exposes it to his God. The Father of mercies can comfort us from all our affliction (2 Cor. 1. 3, 4). freely spill the sentence to him !
It is true that Jesus was God, he was perfect, he knew that one day he resurrected John the Baptist ... It's just, but does not erase the humanity of our Lord, one who has learned the martyrdom of John Baptiste, who wept at the grave of Lazarus, is one who can sympathize with us because "he suffered himself" (Heb. 2. 18). Let the sensitivity of Jesus face the trials of our brothers and sisters.
