"We were all baptized by one Spirit, into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free ; and we all made to drink of one Spirit. " 1 Corinthians 12. 13

 
At the Jewish feast of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit is poured in a spectacular way the disciples were persevering in fidelity to the Lord Jesus since his elevation to heaven. A crowd rushed surprised. Peter explains : the gift of the Holy Spirit is the consequence of the presence of the Lord Jesus in heavenly glory. Peter promises the same Spirit to those who, repentant and baptized, will recognize the Lord Jesus as Savior and Lord. The initial one hundred and twenty people then add that day three thousand others.
All are "baptized by one Spirit into one body", Paul will say later. This day of Pentecost, the crowd is made up of ethnic Israelites or assimilated (the "proselytes" present) ; the receipt of the Holy Spirit introduces a new community, the Church. This binds them together and at the same time distinguishes the people of Israel will remain broadly incredulous vis-à-vis the Lord Jesus.
The announcement of the wonderful works of God in languages ​​other than Hebrew upsets listeners. God wants it now speak directly to people who are not Jewish, the "people of the nations," as they say ? Peter announces this development when he said that the promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit is also "to those far away, wherever the Lord our God shall call him." (Acts 2. 39).
Following the Acts of the story shows how God reconciles either Jews and non-Jews with him, through the cross of the Lord Jesus. Then gradually He helps them out of their original affiliation to enter the new community, the Church (Eph. 2: 11-18). God gives them the witness and power when they receive all this one Spirit (1 Cor. 12. 13).
For twenty centuries, the redeemed of the Lord Jesus from racial or religious origin receive the Holy Spirit as soon as they believed. They have thus the honor of being introduced into the Church, the habitation of God through his Spirit on earth. They then become responsible to keep the unity of the Spirit, to recognize and welcome all those who are sealed with the Spirit and manifest the fruit (Eph. 1 13)
