Pleasing the Lord

But, since God has judged us worthy to entrust us with the Gospel, we speak, not with the idea of pleasing men, but to please God who tests our hearts. 1 Thessalonians 2. 4

The Lord has done so much for us Christians ! He brought us from eternal perdition to eternal glory ; he showed us love and grace. God has paid the highest price that can exist to make us his children. This is why there should be in each of us a very strong desire to please the Lord.

Paul, aware of the favor bestowed upon him, wanted to preach the gospel to please God and not men (today's verse).

To the Corinthians he wrote : This is also why we strive to be pleasing to him, (to please him) whether we live in this body or leave it (2 Corinthians 5: 9).

To the Ephesians he recommends : For if once you were darkness, now you are light in the Lord. Behave like children of light... Discern what is pleasing to the Lord (what pleases him) (Ephesians 5: 8-10).

To the Thessalonians he advises : You have learned from us how you are to behave and please God, and that is what you are doing ; so we ask you and we encourage you in the Lord Jesus : make further progress (1 Thessalonians 4: 1).

For the Colossians, he prays to God that they will be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, to walk worthy of the Lord to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in all good work, and growing by the knowledge of God (Colossians 1: 9,10).

To believers who have elderly parents, he asks : That they learn to exercise piety first towards their own family and to give back to their parents what they have received from them, for this is pleasing to God (1 Timothy 5: 4).

At the end of his life, he reminds Timothy : No serving soldier bothered with the affairs of daily life if he wanted to please the one who recruited him (2 Timothy 2: 4).

Pleasing the Lord out of love for him, isn't that a good decision for the coming year ?
