"He went to the mountain to pray." Mark 6.46
Before Jesus walks on the Sea of Galilee, he climbs a mountain to be alone with God to pray.
He neglects the expectations of the crowd at the late hour, prays until night falls, then descends with the strength of the Spirit of God and calms a strong storm. Would you like to know how he prayed that night ?
Before being caught in the fray of everyday life, go pray on the mountain.
Prayer is a mountain ; you must climb it. "Peter and John went up to the temple at the time of prayer." Acts 3.1
If you wait to be willing, you will lose in consistency in prayer. It's a matter of discipline. The more you pray, the more you feel like it, and the more the prayer becomes rewarding. But you must first turn your back on "the crowd".
Because Christ knew how to escape the imperatives and distractions of existence, he was able to calm the storm that frightened his disciples. Before being caught in the fray of everyday life, go pray on the mountain. It is a safe place in an unstable world, a place where the view is clear, far from the frenetic pace of life.
Up there your horizon widens. Up there Christ reminds you that he has already dealt with all that you will face today, and he will give you the grace to do the same.
You will easily recognize those who went to pray on the mountain. Their fights are not different from yours, some are even more difficult. But these people have inner peace that transcends their family, health, money, and so on.
An encouragement for today
You will be better able to cope with crises when you know that the summit is only a prayer away !
