Proud of yourself !
Galatians 6.4 (BFC) - Let each examine his own conduct ; if he can be proud of it, then he will be proud in relation to himself and not in comparison with others.
The apostle Paul sets out here an important principle about "self-love." In Christian circles pride is hunted down as it should, like a plague, but sometimes this process locks the children of God into self-harm which becomes a heavy burden. Do we have the right to be proud of ourselves ? Yes ! Isn't that pride ? No, if we don't compare with another person !
Pride begins when we compare ourselves to someone else : “Oh, I am much better than this one !". It’s pride. But did you know that a negative comparison is also pride ? "Oh me, I'll never do it like he did !". We are unique beings and in this sense we are incomparable because we all have a destiny, a call, gifts and talents that are unique to us.
Where then is the comparison that can bring pride and fuel our "self-esteem" ? It’s in reviewing our progress. What was my conduct a year ago and how is it today ? How did I know God before compared to today ? If the results are not "brilliant", in prayer we can find God's help who will boost us to start again on a good basis.
Jesus said to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:39). Self-denigration and a lack of self-esteem are going to be a handicap in showing the love of God. For this reason, it is important to live well with yourself and find reasons to be proud of yourself.
Good reflection.
