Put a door to his lips !

Jacques 3.8 – But no one has ever been able to tame the tongue : it is evil and constantly in motion, it is full of deadly poison.

If I have correctly understood what Jacques explains in his epistle, I see two things in it : first an invitation to take control of our tongue, but also an observation that in the body, which is an image of the Church, there is "impossible" to tame the blazing fire that the language can cause, we have understood that it is a question of slander, therefore the solution must be elsewhere.

For ourselves, he says in verse 2 that if we can no longer err in what we say, we are “perfect” and filled with the fruit of the Spirit of “self-control.” David was already saying, "Lord, watch the door of my lips" (Psalm 141.3), so through prayer, God's help, and self-control through the fruit of the Spirit, it must be entirely possible to "limit" the breakage of our words more and more.

But in the Church, body of Christ, we know how much this language has been "responsible" for curses, divisions, murders and quarrels, normal since it is directly inspired by hell (James 3.6), warning very serious for those who allow themselves to be used in this way. Where is the solution ?

I have always believed that repentance, even for the sins of others, is a powerful key. Isn't it the basis of the Gospel, Jesus pays for us? We can initially humble ourselves for this scourge, but it is also a duty for the leaders of a community to clean up, to console with the prophetic word and pastoral care those who have been bruised by this mortal fire but also to protect, after a first and a second warning, the community from those who create divisions (Titus 3.10), who scandalize or who destroy the “little ones” by their words imbued with judgment and criticism.

Let's seek out those who are in “nature” because of such wounds and be fully blessed in the process.

Good reflection.
