Put into practice what you have studied

“He (God) has not ceased to bear witness to what he is through the good he does : he sends you rains and fertile seasons from heaven, he fills you with food and fills your heart with joy.” Acts 14. 17

When we try to share the gospel and want to bear witness to God's love, we often receive scathing custard pies : “If God existed, there wouldn't be so much violence! If God is love, how can He let thousands of children starve to death ?" We are then embarrassed, stuck in place, unable to respond because we also suffer from seeing so many wars and so many famines on earth. However, the evils which strike the world are not proofs of the absence of God nor of the silences for lack of compassion on his part. God has created a perfect universe, and the disorder does not come from Him, but from men with rebellious hearts and independent minds. We know that the laws are inescapable, but we are breaking them! What would traffic be without the Highway Code and the threat of fines? The men who invented the automobile were forced to enact legislation for their own safety at the wheel. God the legislator is also a measure of benevolence, with the will of the best (or at least the worst) for us. The consequences of disobedience being death, each passing day for men who are still alive (when all have sinned!) Is a manifestation of grace in action. Strange or astonishing as it sounds, men are always under the sign of salvation. God makes the sun rise on the wicked as well as on the good. The apostle Paul explains it to Timothy in these terms : "The living God is the Savior of all men, especially believers." This statement does not say that all men are saved, believers or not, but that all benefit from salvation on a daily basis. Now, this salvation is effective only for those who truly surrender themselves to God who, in His patience, wants to save again and again.
