Jesus heard that they had driven him out ; and having met him, he said to him : Do you believe in the Son of God ? He answered : And who is he, Lord, that I believe in him ? You have seen him, Jesus told him, and he is speaking to you. And he said : I believe Lord. And he bowed down to him. John 9 35-38

Jesus sees a man who has been blind since birth. He puts mud on his eyes, and says to him : "Go, and wash yourself in the reserve of Siloam". That's what he does, and he comes back healed !

Strangely, no one seems to rejoice at his healing, yet a sign of divine intervention : the healed man's parents are afraid of the Pharisees, the neighbors are surprised, and the religious leaders try to force him to say that Jesus is a sinful man. But the healed blind man, alone against all, holds firm and progresses in his path of faith. At first it talks about a man called Jesus, then a prophet, then a man of God. However, he is sure of one thing, that he was blind and now he sees. Finally the Lord reveals himself to him by asking the question :

- "Do you believe in the Son of God ?"

- "And who is he, Lord ?" replied the healed blind man.

- "You have seen him", said Jesus to him. And the one who had been blind has this beautiful answer :

- "I believe, Lord", and he prostrates himself before Jesus.

This question : "Do you believe in the Son of God ?" is vital. Question to which we have to answer before God. As with this courageous witness, our faith must be tested by naysayers, purified by trial, strengthened by the witness we bear. Let us resolutely and definitively trust Jesus our Lord and Savior : "I believe, Lord !" So, it is the eyes of faith that contemplate him. Let us open our hearts to him to believe in him.
