Recognition and faith

Jesus spoke up and said : "Weren't the ten healed ? And the other nine, where are they ?” Luke 17.17

Ten lepers begged Jesus to have mercy on them; all were healed (see proposed reading) but only one returns to Jesus in a very special, liberating encounter.

Like those lepers, we humans often only think of God when things are going badly; misfortune or trial surprises us and finds us without resources or strength. We beg, implore his help. From the bosom of suffering, a sincere cry of distress touches the heart of God who helps us with liberality. When the storm is over, we come back to life like those nine lepers, and life resumes until the next ordeal. The grace of God has been manifested for us (as many times) but something is missing.

That something missing is what that Samaritan leper did. Before moving on to his new life, he went to meet his benefactor and discovered in him a personal savior. God's grace for him came true completely, totally : he was not only healed of his leprosy but came to know more of him who is the source of all blessing. And he is the only one of the ten to hear Jesus say to him : Your faith has saved you.

In your life, have you received answers from God to your prayers ? Don't stop there. Do like the tenth leper : go to meet Christ in a process of faith : he will be your Savior !
