Rejected stone, chosen stone

"Have you not even read this scripture : The stone that those who built rejected, it is she who has become the cornerstone of the angle ?" Mark 12. 10

"As [Jesus] came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, Master, look. What stones and buildings ! Jesus answered him, Do you see these great buildings ? It will not be left stone on stone that is not thrown to the ground !" Marc 13. 1, 2

The day after the cleansing of the temple, Jesus has scarcely arrived on the square before the religious leaders, who came in number, approach him. They seek to discredit him among the crowds by questions about the origin and nature of his authority. Without success, because crowds considered him a prophet. The Lord leaves them the parable of the vineyard and the wicked farmers to announce to them in a pictorial way that the privilege of spiritually leading the people of God will be taken from them shortly and entrusted to others (Mark 12: 1-9).

The Lord again uses another image from Psalm 118 to show them that if they reject him as masons can reject an ill-fashioned or worthless stone, God will give him a prominent place, such as "mistress's corner stone". a new house. It was to announce the setting aside of Jewish religious institutions.

That evening, Jesus left the temple to return, fulfilling what he had said to them : "Behold, your house is left to you desolate" (Matt 23. 38). As he walks away, one of his disciples seeks to share with the Lord his pride about this magnificent temple. This imposing complex of several buildings with massive white marble stones and beaten gold finishes was one of the great wonders of the time.

The disciple must have wondered how such a majestic and spectacular site could become "desert". Jesus said to him : "It will not be left stone on stone that is not thrown to the ground !" Since Jesus was rejected, the temple was no longer necessary.

Large temples are now in ruins, but one can still see their past splendor. On the other hand, the Jewish temple has completely disappeared, according to the word of the Lord. It is replaced by a mosque !

Today, the Church, the building of God, is made of living stones from all nations by the work of Jesus (1 Pet. 2-4). Each stone is a sculpture, aligned with the "cornerstone stone". Death can not overthrow any of them (Matt 16:18).
