Remember

Remember Lot's wife. Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses it will keep it (Luke 17: 32,33).

Three times the Spirit of God invites us to remember women whose actions are sobering.

Lot's wife : a woman attached to the things of the world.

What a memory of this woman ! Lot chose to live in Sodom where the locals are in revolt against God (Genesis 18:20). The city's judgment is imminent, but God always differentiates between the righteous and the unrighteous : He delivered the righteous Lot, overwhelmed by the debauchery conduct of these perverse men (2 Peter 2:7). The angels of God urge the family to leave the city, but Lot's wife turns to Sodom in flames, defying God’s prohibition. It becomes a pillar of salt. Jesus uses this example to show how one can lose one's life by clinging to the world.

Miriam, sister of Moses : a help that becomes a hindrance.

Remember what the Lord your God did to Miriam on your way out of Egypt (Deuteronomy 24: 9).

Miriam’s mission after crossing the Red Sea is to encourage Jewish women by example and song. But, a few years later, instead of being satisfied with her service, she jealous of Moses : Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses (Numbers 12: 1). God hears it and stands up for Moses : How is it that you were not afraid to speak out against my servant Moses (v. 8.) ? Miriam's behavior is being penalized. She becomes a leper. The one that had a leading role becomes a drag for all of God's people who stop for eight days and do not resume their journey until after Miriam is healed.

Mary of Bethany : a woman who loves intensely.

I tell you the truth, wherever this good news will be proclaimed, throughout the world, it will also be said in remembrance of this woman, what she did (Matthew 26:13).

The Lord fully appreciates the perfume of great price that Mary pours on him. It is indeed, just before the cross, the concrete testimony of the great love of his servant that foresees his imminent death.
