Repent or perish

Repent for the kingdom of heaven is near. Matthew 4.17

We had met during the elections in 2017. Over the past months, the subjects of faith, the Bible and the wonderful message of salvation have been discussed many times. He had a big, tidy Bible in his library. The religious formation of his youth seemed to him sufficient to acquire salvation or the approval of God, without measuring the real needs of his soul. But he gradually examined the simple message of the gospel. Thus, we were able to read and converse regularly on the Word of God. The Bible is now open in this retiree who no longer ignores the message of the Gospel.

Only God, through his Holy Spirit, can lead the sinner on the way to eternal life. Religion and good intentions are tenacious in the natural heart but they will never save.

Unless you repent, you will all perish too, Jesus said (Luke 13:5). To repent is to recognize my sin, to confess it to God with my mouth, and to abandon it in my life. The new life then begins. Christ is no longer for me a simple stranger or a great prophet : I recognize him as God the Son, who died and rose again to save me. Save me now and give me the assurance of eternal life forever in his presence in his heaven of glory.
