Resist !

Luke 1.60 - But his mother spoke up, and said : "No, he will be called John".

You will have noticed, I am right in the name right now. But my thinking goes to another topic today. Elizabeth's parents and neighbors had come to circumcise the child and decided to call him after his father's name Zechariah. As his mother objected, they had sought support from Zechariah, but he had confirmed his wife's words.

Try to put yourself in context. You have the joy of having a child that you have been expecting for a very, very long time. God has answered your prayer by asking you to call him John. And now your loved ones decide otherwise, you, the mother, stand up and this "beautiful family" is trying to disturb your relationship to get what they want ! There is something to freak out, right ?

My thinking is this : how far are we willing to go when God asks us for something ? Take my word for it, as soon as you stand up for God the opposition will wake up and it will not only come from outside but probably also from family and "friends". And if you stand firm, they won't stop there, they'll even try to stir up your relationship and if that doesn't work, you will become the ugly duckling of the family.

The path to obedience to our God is not an easy path. Yet, it is well worth listening to Him, and this in great detail. We have little idea of the importance of doing what He asks of us in great detail. There is a spiritual scope that goes beyond us all and the stakes are capital. I’m repeating myself, but it’s really worth it to face all the opposition that stands up. May the Lord give us the courage !

Good reflection.
