Rest for the broken soul
Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and receive my instructions, for I am gentle and lowly in heart ; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11.28-30
Millions of people put on a smile every day, but inside, in their hearts and souls, there is pain, burden, trauma, depression. I know what I'm telling you because in 2003 I went through a year of exhaustion and depression. My soul was broken and I felt no emotion. I was desperate.
Jesus didn't come just to save us from hell. He also came to heal those who are heartbroken, those who are going through trauma, exhaustion or depression.
Do you feel tired, exhausted, broken ? It is to you yourself that Jesus addresses his call :
"Come to me, all of you who are tired and burdened."
“Jesus did not come just to save us from hell. He also came to heal the brokenhearted.”
What does he promise to do if you come to him and give him time ? He tells you :
"I will give you rest... you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
In 2003, of course, I experienced a desert and a deep despair for my soul, but I leaned on the divine and eternal promises of the Lord and I cried out to him with all my might. I then felt his presence, his gentle rest, his healing and his restoration.
It started with a gentle rain from heaven, and then ended a few weeks later with a torrent of joy from the very heart of God our Father !
A prayer for today
Lord, I beg your pardon if I mismanaged my time, body and soul. I also forgive anyone who hurt me. I believe that you can restore me and, by faith, I open my heart and receive your love, your grace, your peace, your rest. Fill me with the joy of your Spirit. Amen.
