Return to the Bible

I implore you, before God and before the Lord Jesus Christ, who must judge the living and the dead at the time of his coming and of his reign : preach the word, insist on all occasions, whether it is favorable or not, refutes, resumes and encourages. Do all of this with full patience and full education. 2 Timothy 4: 1,2

In 1521, almost 490 years ago, the monk Martin Luther pronounced these historic words : “My conscience is a prisoner of the Word of God ; I cannot and do not want to revoke myself”. The authority of the Word of God over Luther was the starting point of the Reformation.

A few years later, John Calvin, imbued with the biblical message, proclaimed in Geneva : "The believer malnourished by the Holy Scriptures is crippled in heart and in reason. I only know one way to make people strong : and that is to give them knowledge of the Word of God."

At regular intervals in the turbulent history of the Church of Jesus Christ, there have been returns to God because believers returned to the Bible. This is not surprising because it comes from God and has his authority.

At the beginning of this new millennium, never have there been so many books about the Christian faith, books of all kinds, of very variable quality. Yet there are many Christians who, failing to read and study the Bible, are content to know that their sins are forgiven.

Today, for a revival to occur, it must be preceded by a true return of Christians to the Word of God. There is no other way than that of clinging to the Word, of reading it with prayer and perseverance, of studying it in the mind of someone who has everything to receive from God.

This is how believers can progress in knowledge :

thoughts of God who wants all people to be saved,

of his love for humanity which made him give his Son,

of the mission he gives his children to bring the good news to all.

Then, by our conduct and our words, we will become more faithful and more zealous witnesses; we will know how to pray better for so many people who are still on the way to eternal perdition, as well as for the people of God.
