Richard Wurmbrand's Conversion (1)

A Christian of Jewish origin, Richard Wurmbrand was imprisoned for many years in Romania because of his faith in Christ. In 1967, he founded an international movement to help persecuted Christians. Here is an episode of his conversion recounted by his wife, Sabina :

"Richard was slowly recovering (of tuberculosis). I tried to tell him about the good times that awaited us when he returned to Bucharest. He tried to tell me about his discovery of the New Testament which tells of the life of Christ. Before we hadn't thought of having children, and now Richard was talking about how we should raise them...

In a mountain village where he was recovering. Something strange has happened. There we met an old carpenter, who was very moved when he realized that Richard was a Jew. Shining with excitement, he took her arm in his rough hand, telling her :

- I asked God to do me a favor at the end of my life. Since Christ was a Jew, I wanted to make my salvation known to a Jew. But there were none here, and I couldn't leave my village. So God had to send me one : You are the answer to my prayer.

Before we left, the carpenter gave Richard a worn out Bible saying :

- My wife and I prayed for hours, asking for your conversion.

Richard read and reread this Bible..."

This is how he became a Christian.
