As I meditate tonight, I say to my wife : "We are not a light for our neighbors." Oh, what a grace when God helps us to see ourselves as we are ! We have been witnesses to the neighbors of our last three houses, but it is now nearly eight months since we have lived in it, and we have not yet testified of Christ. When we bought it, we had testified to the people who lived in the house, and the woman was really touched, but these people do not live there anymore ! We replaced them.
Jesus said : "They do not light a lamp to put it under the bushel, but put it on the candlestick, and it enlightens all who are in the house" (Matthew 5:15). The fact is that the world is the home of Christians. Too often Christians have remained only between them. They light each other by their light, but they forget to illuminate the world. You know, we are a lamp. You are a lamp. You can say and repeat this truth : "I am a lamp". Yes, because God, who said : The light will shine from the bosom of darkness ! made the light shine in our hearts to make the knowledge of the glory of God shine forth on the face of Christ (2 Corinthians 4: 6). There is a light that shines in our hearts at every moment. It shines, but to manifest it, something must be done through our body, and it must submit and let our mind enlighten this world.
I, about a month ago, bought for my neighbors on the right a special bread from a good French bakery (probably the best in the whole region), a bread called "The bread of friends". I found it really nice to offer a loaf of that name for no reason. It is true that over the past 8 months, 5 have been experienced in the snow and the cold after a harsh winter, but no matter, when we are on fire, we should burn whatever the circumstances. I do not think that the apostles, in prison or in danger, were waiting to be in better circumstances to testify of Christ. No, I have to go and testify to them.
