Risen !

Risen !

Two men, dressed in shining clothes, […] said to them : "Why are you looking for the living one among the dead ? He is not here, but he is risen." Luke 24.4-6

On the evening of the day after the Passover, Jesus presents himself in the midst of his gathered disciples. Dumbfounded, they think they see a ghost first. But he is there in person in the midst of his family.

Why are you searching among the dead... ? Death is conquered. All evil powers are defeated. God has displayed his extraordinary power in his Son. (Ephesians 1.20-21)

Jesus lives an incomparable life, eternal life. Lazarus, whom Jesus had brought back to life (John 11:44), died a second time. Jesus, no! His body is no longer stopped by the walls, and yet it remains marked by the nails of the cross. He appears and disappears from the eyes of his disciples.

Jesus lives forever. He would later appear to more than five hundred people at a time, then to Stephen (Acts of the Apostles 7.56) and to Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus (1 Corinthians 15.6-8).

Jesus lives today. He is present among those who have placed their trust in him : Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am in their midst. (Matthew 18.20)

Do you believe in Jesus Christ ? In the Risen Jesus, the one who lives forever, the one who triumphed over death ?

Today Jesus is seated at the right hand of God. His Father gave him all power. He is alive, he lives forever! Hallelujah !
