Risk taking

He who moves stones gets injured, he who splits wood runs a risk. Ecclesiastes 10.9

Every action involves an element of risk. The lumberjack who uses a chainsaw knows he has a tool in his hands that can kill him. However, he does not allow himself to be paralyzed by this eventuality. His job requires him to integrate this danger and take the necessary precautionary measures so that the accident does not occur.

At the time of the pandemic that hit the world in 2020, the people most at risk were caregivers. While the majority of the population was confined, they risked their lives in an effort to save as many people as possible from the deadly virus. They could not save others without risking death.

Their altruism, which could go as far as sacrifice, reminds me of that of Jesus. To save us from eternal death, Jesus, the Son of God, took the risk of the incarnation. He made himself like us. In a body identical to ours, he knew the risk of temptation. He triumphed over it every day. He finally exposed himself to the risk of suffering. This was inseparable from his mission. Jesus had to die, to collect the wages of sin so that we would be freed from its consequences. Every evening, at the start of 2020, the French applauded the caregivers who went to the front to save them. Our gratitude to Jesus, the Savior of our souls, should be even greater !
