Sacred Jonah !

Jonah 2.3 (BFC) - When I was in distress I cried out to you, Lord, and you answered me ; from the pit of death I called for help and you heard me.

I don't like the personality of the prophet Jonah! He was a callous, angry and rebellious man. I don't think any community leader would want such a man on their team. And yet, he was the one chosen by the Lord to be the instrument of one of the greatest revivals of the Old Testament.

I would like to give you some food for thought. What would be our attitude to God if He sent us to our enemies with a threatening message of judgment ; but, there is a but, we are convinced that he will be gracious and that we will ultimately be the one to make the people we hate happy ? It is important to probe ourselves into what sometimes drives us.

How would we react if a man like Jonas asked us for help when he was in a "mess" through his own fault and bad choices ? Would we have the heart of the Father to help such a man ?

I also address those who have a bad character, far removed from the fruit of the Spirit that we are all called to bear. Jonah could have been a blessing from God to others, certainly, this is part of the “mysteries of God” ! But for him ? He has hit rock bottom for the first time even though God got him out of there because of his repentance, but his book ends abruptly, as if his life had been cut short !

My beloveds, bad temper does not apologize ! Let us not hide behind the fact that the Lord uses us anyway, it is His love and His compassion that are the cause of this fact. To have a cantankerous character like Jonah always comes from pride and God resists the proud (James 4.6). Sooner or later we will pay the price for our behavior and the Lord will break us, although again that will be a gesture of love on his part.

Good reflection.
