God speaks sometimes in one way, sometimes in another, and we do not notice him. Job 33. 14
Prepare to meet your God. Amos 4.12
Saved... but lost
These facts take place in the 19th century. A steamer was heading for New York when a fire broke out in the coal bunker. There is a risk of explosion due to the nature of the cargo. The captain warns his crew : "Gentlemen, we are in peril, on the brink of eternity and abandoned to the mercy of God". He testifies to his faith and recommends that everyone come to terms with God. Terrified, these men, used to making fun of God, begin to pray. The captain suddenly had the idea of flooding the hold to prevent the explosion. The danger removed, he warned the officers. But they laugh at their fear, forgetting to thank God who saved them from certain death. While they joke, the captain is quickly called because the floodgates no longer want to close : the ship fills up and threatens to sink. The captain warns the crew again. Terrified, these men begin to pray again. Finally, we succeed in closing the floodgates and all danger is soon over. All return to their indifferent laughter...
You yourselves, you may have already been on the brink of eternity, you have come close to death. Will you say : I will pray the approach of this ultimate moment ? Will you have the time and the strength to do it ? Jesus Christ alone can save you from eternal death, he died for you. Receive his grace. He is offering it to you for free today to forgive you of your sins. Jesus loves you, he wants you for his heaven. Do not wait until tomorrow it may be too late.
