Indeed, Christ is my life and dying is gain... I have a desire to go away and be with Christ, which is by far the best. Philippians 1:21, 23
See death in the face
“The violence of the explosion made the whole neighborhood tremble. I only remember the crash of the explosion and the irresistible force that threw me to the ground... I came to my senses in the hospital, my scalp full of shards of glass, aching, without strength ! It was in Belfast ; a bomb had just exploded in a van ; I was alive and virtually unharmed when there were so many casualties ! I realized that I was close to death. I was upset, but I was not afraid in retrospect, for I was absolutely certain that if I had been killed all would have been well for me : I would have been with Christ in heaven. Peace filled my heart.
I do not wish anyone to be on the brink of death, but I am sure that such an experience can be useful for asking the real questions, for refocusing your priorities and getting to the point.
What is my anchor for the beyond ? What is my life worth in the light of eternity ?
Here are some certainties, stated by men of faith, and which I also share :
- “I know that my Redeemer is alive... and with my flesh I will see God” (Job 19. 25, 26).
- “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God” (Romans 8:28).
- "I know that you can do anything, and that no design is too difficult for you" (Job 42.2).
- "I know who I have believed, and I am convinced that he has the power to keep what I have entrusted to him" (2 Timothy 1:12). "
