"Be careful not to walk as wise, but as wise, seizing the opportunity, because the days are evil." Ephesians 5: 15-16
Each year has 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours : a wealth of time granted by God! How are we going to use it to please the Lord ? By seizing every opportunity: these hours that elapse will never come back !
"To seize the opportunity" is to act like the market : not to miss the opportunity to make a good business that will no longer represent itself. The supermarket of this world offers an immense amount of means to spend our time, even to "kill" it. There is something for everyone, from the most degrading to the most cultural! But a bad atmosphere, that of the last days, reigns in this great market ; Let us go through it with careful wisdom not to be seduced by anything and everything.
Let us remember that the Christian has a mission to fulfill: that of being a witness of Jesus Christ, announcing the good news of salvation to unbelievers. What makes us discern the opportunities, those good works that God prepared in advance for us to walk in (Ephesians 2: 10) ? It is our love for our Lord, which translates into love for others. Worldwide mortality is 1.9 deaths every second on earth, or 158,857 deaths per day, or nearly 59 million deaths each year. "Look carefully, then, as you walk, not as fools, but as wise men, who redeem the time, for the days are criminal" (verse of the day, version Chouraqui).
Seizing the opportunity also means taking advantage of our encounters with brothers and sisters in Christ to talk about our faith, to encourage us to live with the Lord, to pray together.
Let us also seize the opportunity in our family circle to place every circumstance in the current of God's thoughts, even rain or fine weather.
Christians, let us grow in the spirit of grace for Christ. Let us not remain passive, but walk carefully. Let us open our eyes to discern and seize every opportunity to serve Christ, both in a world hostile to Him and within the family of faith.
