Serene in the storm

Friday January 7, 2022

God is for us a refuge and a support, a help always present in the distress. This is why we are fearless when the earth is turned upside down, when the mountains are shaken in the heart of the seas. Psalm 46. 2, 3

Serene in the storm

When the Covid-19 epidemic began, my 95-year-old great-aunt was still living at home on her own. Still in good health, she had retained all her lucidity. She was fully aware of the risks she was facing, such as what to do to protect herself.

When the lockdown went into effect, I thought she would spend this time with her children. To my surprise, she told me that she had decided to stay at home, she was not worried.

She told me how grateful she was to the Lord who had allowed her to live in the city center with all the shops and services nearby. She saw a testimony of God's faithfulness in the fact that neighbors came to spend this time in their house next to hers. So she would not be isolated.

Beyond these material benefits, she thanked God for all the encouragement she received from the biblical calendar that she read every day. In one of her readings, the verse mentioned above particularly touched her.

In the midst of the storm, she remained perfectly serene, firmly attached to her Lord who will never forsake her.

At my feet the ocean rumbles, - The wind whistles around me.

On Christ, my rock, I found - My hope and my faith.

My rock, my fortress, - My protective asylum,

My help in distress, - It is Jesus, the Redeemer !
