Serve his next

"Have mercy on one another." Zechariah 7. 9

When in 1916 Marie Curie passes her driving license to go to the front of armies, she has already received the Nobel Prize in Physics (1903) and Chemistry (1911). She has already created radiological ambulances to get as close as possible to the wounded on the battlefield ; but in 1916, she wants to go herself! Until then the wounded were not treated on the spot, but just dressed before being evacuated ; many died during the trip. Marie Curie mobilizes 17 vehicles carrying X-ray machines and is involved in the creation of 150 fixed radiology stations in military hospitals. This fight in the shadow of this great scholar did not even win him a medal ! She did that to serve her neighbor. Rather than remain in the peace of her research lab, she preferred to go to the front.

This act of love, towards suffering men whom she did not even know, challenges us, we believers ! What is our attitude towards our neighbor who knows the suffering in a country at war ? What is our attitude in general for our neighbor, without going far ?

Egoism and egocentrism rule the world at the beginning of the twenty-first century, but what is prevalent among men must not be in the children of God ; on the contrary, God says to us : "Always pursue what is good between you and with regard to all men" (1 Thess, 5, 15). God does not ask us to serve and love only our loved ones, but to show mercy to all men : "For love, serve one another ; for all the law is fulfilled in one word, this : Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" (Galatians 13:14).

It can be difficult to serve our neighbor if it is far from us ... That this is not an easy excuse! We always have something to offer our neighbor wherever he is: prayer ! Let us pray for all men, for our brothers and sisters in the faith, for those who suffer, who are troubled or threatened, for those who do not know salvation.

We will be at the service of our neighbor !
