Should you throw your "Jonah" overboard ?

“He answered them : Take me and throw me into the sea and the sea will calm down towards you.” Jonah 1. 12

Do you know people who are like Jonah : stubborn people who refuse to listen to the voice of the Lord when He speaks to them ? Perhaps some of your entourage are “Jonahs” who do not want to go where God wants to send them. Our prophet decided to flee so as not to obey Him. He went down to the port and boarded a ship bound for a destination opposite to that chosen by God. The captain quickly realized that this passenger was a source of danger. A storm broke and the sailors were forced to dump their cargo while Jonah slept in the hold ! When Jesus gets into your boat you can face the worst storms, but if you take a disobedient “Jonah” on board, it may cost you dearly. Awakened, Jonah gave the solution to prevent the shipwreck : “Take me and cast me into the sea, and the sea will be calm towards you, for I know that it is I who bring this great storm upon you” (v. 12). At first, the sailors did not dare to throw it into the sea, but the storm redoubled in intensity, they ended up resigning themselves to it and calm returned ! You won't be able to stand up to your "Jonah" either. God is the only one who can handle such a situation : He knows how to prepare a big fish to break the most hardened hearts. Don't try to "convert your Jonah". The Spirit of God can do it, you can't. As long as you try to protect it, God will not act. Our pride may suffer from it, but let us accept that God is the only one capable of softening the hardness of such "Jonah", inclined to resist three days, in the stomach of the fish, before falling on their knees before God to finally promise to Obey him. What can we do then ? Pray and implore divine grace to touch the heart of our “Jonah” !
