Sighs to God

"Lord ! All my desire is before you, and my groan is not hidden from you." Psalm 38. 9

"The Spirit helps us in our weakness ; Because we do not know what to ask as it should ; But the Spirit himself intercedes by inexpressible sighs ; And he who searches the hearts knows that it is the thought of the Spirit, for he intercedes for the saints according to God." Romans 8: 26-27

A moan directed towards God is always received by him as the intercession of the Spirit. He obtains an answer according to the boundless love that God has for each of his beloved children.

Even though we feel spiritually miserable, even though our mind is deeply overwhelmed, even if we are not fully aware of being heard, God always perceives the look of trust directed towards Him.

Our distress is perhaps the consequence of sin, which is why we are afraid of not having access to God. But let us be certain that God takes our groaning into account, whatever the cause of the ordeal which provokes it. It is often our own will, our pride, our refusal to humiliate ourselves that leads us to refuse to cry to God. This was the case of the Israelites, to whom the Lord reproaches them : "They have not cried to me in their hearts, when they have cried out on their beds" (Hosea 7:14).

Let us realize the beauty of this divine grace. When words are lacking, the believer knows that God understands his sigh. God is attentive to the simple fact that we turn to him with the most elementary expression of language: not a long prayer, not a well articulated speech, but a groan. The Lord sometimes expressed himself by sighs and trembling in his suffering with the men he had come to deliver (John 11:33, 38).

God is sensitive to the groaning of one of his suffering children ; He is also sensitive to the sigh by which his child expresses his gratitude to him for a moment of joy, because every blessing comes from him. One believer brought this testimony : "Every time God made furrows in my heart, it was to sow something."
