Softness is not a weakness

"By slowness to anger a prince is bent, and a soft tongue can break bones." Proverbs 25.15

The disciples were gentle but not weak. On the contrary, I am persuaded that there is a great power in gentleness, when it is mingled with an unshakeable conviction.

True power is not in passion, not in hardness or wickedness, but rather in goodness and gentleness ...

When I worked as a salesperson in a store, I sometimes saw dissatisfied customers. The vast majority spoke loudly while complaining to attract the attention of other buyers. In reality, they were only contemptuous! Indeed, people are often outraged at the lack of civility. However, I was also witness to a curious scene that was two meters away from me. A dissatisfied customer told a manager. He never got annoyed, and with a disconcerting smile and remarkable politeness, he eventually got everything he wanted. Of course, there was no abuse on his part, his demands were justified and attainable. The strength that emanated from his smile and his politeness marked me forever.

Martin Luther King, Evangelical Pastor, contributed to a real change of mentality through his non-violence. His sweetness and self-assurance earned him the privilege of reversing segregation in the United States. Gandhi, a great Hindu character, succeeded in making the British Empire swell by its gentleness. I would miss time to talk about Tolstoy, Nelson Mandela ... And what about Jesus, who is "gentle and humble of heart" (Matthew 11:29), despite his authority and firmness.

Surely, there is an extraordinary power out of sweetness ! Does the Bible not say that a "soft tongue can break bones" ? Therefore, understand that true power is not in passion, nor in hardness or wickedness, but rather in goodness and gentleness.

A prayer for today

Lord, I come to you and I ask you to help me develop this sweetness. Let me not be angry and angry, but show kindness and gentleness to those around me. Amen.
