Some water, please !
Jesus, tired of the journey, was sitting by the well. It was around noon. John 4.6
When preparing for a hike on the Vercors plateau, we paid attention to two important aspects : the length of the journey and the water points, because fatigue and thirst are the lot of hikers. Filling your gourd at the source and drinking until you are thirsty are highlights.
Jesus and his disciples trekked from Judea to Galilee. They make a stop at Jacob's well near Sychar in Samaria. Jesus is tired, he the son of God ! He sits by the well while his disciples go to buy bread. He is thirsty. But he cannot quench his thirst, for he has nothing to draw on. It will therefore depend on the first person who will come. It will be a Samaritan woman. He will violate the codes of good conduct of that time. He asks a woman, who is also a Samaritan, for some water to drink. This humble request astonishes this one. This is the start of a long conversation at the end of which Jesus reveals his identity : he is the expected Messiah.
At the request of the inhabitants of Sychar whom the woman went to call, Jesus will stay two days with them and many will believe in him. A very simple request for a little water therefore allowed a whole other thirst to be quenched for many, that of eternal life !
Are you thirsty to know this eternal life with God ?
