Spiritual sensibility

Do not like the world, or anything that belongs to the world. If anyone loves the world, it is no longer possible for him to love the Father. 1 John 2:15

There are certain elements of daily life that are not sinners in themselves but that tend to lead to sin if they are abused. Abuse literally means "extreme use" and in many cases the abuse of lawful things becomes sin. Ambition is an essential part of character, but it must be fixed on lawful objects and exercised in adequate proportion. It is absolutely essential to think of the necessities of life and to take care of one's family. but this can degenerate into anguish, and then, as Christ has reminded us, the cares of this life stifle the spiritual seed in the heart.

Making money is essential for everyday life ; but to earn money is likely to degenerate by loving money, and then the deception of riches enters and spoils our spiritual life. The so-called worldliness in Christian circles is poorly understood. You can not confine it to a particular rank, walk, or circumstance of life, and say that one person is spiritual and another is non-spiritual. Worldliness is in fact a spirit, an atmosphere, an influence that permeates all life and human society, and it must be constantly and energetically protected.

Prayer for the day

Lord, keep me sensitive to your Spirit so that I do not fall into the spirit of worldliness and its lusts.

Billy Graham
