Stable like a planted tree

It looks like a tree planted near a stream : it gives fruit in its season, and its foliage does not wither. Everything he does is successful. Psalm 1.3

Stability is important to each of us. Jeremiah 17.8 and Psalm 1.3 both tell us about being like planted trees. We must be balanced and temperate in order to keep the devil from devouring us (see 1 Peter 5.8). In order to stand firm before him, we must be rooted, established, strong, steadfast, and determined in Christ.

Jesus is the best land in which we can be rooted. You can count on him to be stable. The same Jesus, all the time, still faithful, loyal, true to his word, and mature. It's not like this one day and like that the next day. It doesn't change with the circumstances ; so if you are rooted in him, so will you.

God wants to give us the power to stay calm in the face of adversity. He wants us to be stable like firmly rooted trees, but it is we who choose where we want to be planted.

Will you be planted in the world ? in your emotions ? your circumstances ? your past or will you choose today to plant yourself in Christ ? I beg you to place yourself under his dependence. Its stability can be yours today.

A prayer for today

My God, I want to plant my roots in you. You never change, so I know I can count on you to keep me stable under all circumstances.
