Stay firm

We all have our habits. We often get up at the same time, eat the same breakfast, go the same way to get to our place of work while listening to the same radio station. We are faced with endless rehearsals in our daily routine. It's life. Although this does not seem obvious at times, there is real maturity and real growth in being faithful and responsible, day after day, week after week, year after year.

The same can be said for our spiritual life. On Sunday morning we go to church, sit on the same chairs and sing the same hymns of praise and worship. Even our prayers seem identical. We are tempted to ask ourselves, "Do I really do something profitable for the kingdom of God ? I did the same thing over and over, but there is very little diversity in all of this."

Growing up in grace does not mean doing more or doing greater things for God. True growth happens when you do the same thing over and over again, with an assurance in your heart that we are doing everything for Him. It's like learning to write when you're at school. We start with loops and lines, forming big letters. But after a while, the letters become smaller and closer together until you learn to put words together and form sentences. Even if you did the same things repeatedly, all this time, something of value was accomplished.

In our Christian walk, it takes a lot of grace to continue when you are tired, broken, downcast or distressed. In fact, it takes more grace to stay firm in these moments than when everything is new, fresh and exciting. It is wonderful to know that we can trust in His Word and know that He is with us.

I encourage you to serve Him faithfully and to see the Lord take you to a new place of peace, trust, and purpose for your life.
