Such a big salvation

This is why we must all the more hold on to the message that we have heard, of perhaps being dragged to our loss. Indeed, since the word spoken by the intermediary of the angels has been confirmed and all transgression and all disobedience have received just sanctification, how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation ? This salvation, first announced by the Lord, has been confirmed to us by those who have heard it. Hebrews 2:1-3

Throughout history, God has spoken to men and he has done so in different ways. He used the angels to give the law of Moses as Stephen reminds those who will stone him : you who received the Law through the angels and who did not keep it (Acts 7:53). But the law is merciless to those who transgress it, and since no one can fulfill it, it has become an instrument of death.

In contrast to her, the author of the epistle presents the great salvation... announced by the Lord. With what respect, with what attention, it behooves us to consider this revelation which brings us, not angels, which would already be marvelous, but God himself in the person of his Son.

So what is this great salvation ? This is of course first of all the deliverance from our guilt before God because Jesus Christ himself purified from sins (1.3) ; it is also our redemption, the deliverance from the devil who held us in bondage (2:15) ; it is the assurance that we can approach God with confidence (4:16) ; it is knowing that we can please God simply by placing our trust in him in all circumstances (11. 6) ; Finally, it is the certainty of entering the city that is to come, into the presence of God forever (13. 14).

If it was already very serious for the Israelites to transgress the law of Moses, what punishment awaits those who despise the great salvation that God offers in Jesus Christ to all men ! For those who do not want to believe, it means eternal perdition ; but for those who, having believed, do not pay attention to all aspects of this great salvation, it can be a wasted Christian life, without joy and above all without fruit for God.
