Support an injustice

Jesus... suffered the cross. Hebrews 12:2

Why don't you rather bear an injustice ? 1 Corinthians 6:7

Do not say : I will repay evil. Hope in the Lord, and he will deliver you. Proverbs 20:22

Admittedly, there is little we bear as badly as an injustice, big or small.

Sometimes we are really victims of slander, of financial damage, of a lie with more or less serious consequences. We are ulcerated deep within ourselves. We demand that justice be done. But the situation may be unrecoverable. Then we suffer deeply, completely helpless, and hatred can enter our hearts.

Then stands before us the great figure of the Savior. Jesus is before his accusers. What did he do to be accused in court ? Only good ! The fact of having been brought there is a crying injustice. Blinded and perverse men will again add false witness to it, which is an abomination to God. They will continue with the beatings, the name calling, the spitting, the mockery, and finally... the crucifixion.

The cross was and remains the greatest injustice of all time and the greatest shame of humanity. It would have been easy for Jesus, after his resurrection, to show himself to Pilate, to Caiaphas, to the religious leaders of the Jews, to confuse and crush them all. He even let them spread a lie about his resurrection : the time had not come to expose this injustice.

Dear Savior, you endured the cross, the great injustice of the cross! As for me, the injustices I suffer are very small compared to those you have known !

The apostle Peter did not forget the attitude of his Master who, when he was insulted, did not return the insult, when he suffered, did not threaten, but surrendered to him who judges justly (1 Peter 2:21-23).

The apostle Paul writing to the Corinthians addresses their conscience, they who were so quick to demand justice : Why do you not rather bear an injustice ? Why don't you rather let yourselves be stripped ? (1 Corinthians 6:7).

We, too, must hear these questions and look to the example of our Master.
