Talk to your soul

"Bless the LORD my soul, for he forgives all your iniquities, he heals all your diseases." Psalm 103: 2-3

This is the message David gives to his discouraged soul !

There is nothing magical about taking texts of Scripture, filled with divine promises, and reminding them of our soul when we are overwhelmed.

The resumption of certain texts is a simple and practical way of speaking to our soul. Instead of letting my soul speak to me about his wounds, I ask him to listen to God's promises.

In the gospel of John, Jesus said to us : "If you abide in me, and my words remain in you, ask what you will, and it will be granted to you." (John 15: 7) Let us remember the importance that Jesus attributes to the need for His words to remain in us. How can they stay there ? Simply by reading them in the gospel, and recalling them to us.

Instead of letting my soul speak to me about his wounds, I ask him to listen to God's promises.

While our souls are dejected, it is essential to remind them of God's faithfulness, power, love, justice ... The Apostle Paul exhorts believers to make the Word of God live among them not only by reading it or but also through songs inspired by the love and goodness of God : "Let the word of Christ dwell among you abundantly : instruct and exhort one another in all wisdom, psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, singing to God in your hearts under the inspiration of grace." (Colossians 3:16)

Psalm 103, quoted in part at the beginning of this thought, shows us how David speaks to his soul about what God is doing, and what God is. In proclaiming this, he restores his soul. He experiences God's help : "Behold, God is my help, the Lord is the support of my soul." (Psalms 54: 6).

When our souls are wounded, they need outside help to help them heal. If our soul is sick, we need good words of faith and love of God, who will heal our souls.

Advice for today

As you go through a time of trial, speak to your soul of the greatness of the Creator God, his love, his faithfulness. Remind your soul of the wonderful promises of the Lord, such as the one that says : "I am with you every day." (Matthew 28:20).
