"Taste the Word of God !"

"They have tasted the good Word of God" Hebrews 6.5

As he was preparing to go on a journey, a young man said to his friend, a traveling companion : "I am coming, I have only to put in my suitcase : a guide for the road, a lamp , A mirror, a telescope, a book of poems, some old letters, a book of songs, a sword, a hammer and some study books."

"But you can not put all that in your suitcase," his friend told him. "Of course I can." He took his Bible, placed it in his suitcase, and said : "Here, it's all there !" The Bible is all this at once !

God has given us the grace to taste the Word of God, and we have found it good.

While crossing a dark grove in the heart of Sicily, a pedlar was arrested by an armed band. The brigands robbed him of the few pieces which he possessed, and ordered him to kindle a fire for them to warm themselves. They told him to keep the fire burning the books he carried in his bag. After lighting the fire, he asked them if he could read an excerpt from each book before burning it. They nodded, and he read Psalm 23 in the first Bible.

One of the thieves said : "Do not burn this book, it's a good book." He read in the second Bible chapter 13 of the first to the Corinthians, and another robber told him : "This text is beautiful, do not burn this book." He read in the following Bibles a text of the sermon on the mountain, the parable of the good Samaritan, the parable of the prodigal son ... and every time the thieves told him not to burn the book. At the end none of the Bibles was burnt, and all remained in the hands of these brigands. A few years later, this pedlar met one of those thieves who had converted in an evangelical meeting. The Bible had produced its beneficial and salvific effect in the life of this man.

Yes, God has given us the grace to taste the Word of God, and we have found it good. It is a lamp that illuminates our path, it is honey that delights our soul, it is bread that satisfies our spirit, it brings us consolation in trials, rest in storms, and assurance in the most Dark.

Advice for today

Have you experienced that the Word is good : "to teach, to convince, to correct, to instruct ..." (2 Timothy 3:16), then continue to read it because it is good to give wisdom and vigor.
