The century of reason !

2 Timothy 3.2 - For men will be... irreligious.

The Greek word “anosios” translated by irreligious can also be translated by: impious, bad or even wicked. I would like to focus on the meaning of "no religion". At the time of Paul, I think that all his contemporaries were religious : various polytheisms, cult of the stars, cult of the emperor... There were several thousand religions in the New Testament period. By announcing that men would be irreligious, Paul already foresaw our agnostic century, having replaced God with "Reason".

Whether we like it or not, we were immersed as a child, especially us Europeans, in an anti-faith Cartesian spirit and our way of "thinking" about biblical truths needs a real metamorphosis as Romans 12.2 tells us. We are polluted by a school education which has eradicated the creation story in favor of the theory of evolution, the study of great "thinkers" like Descartes and Sartre, a science which prides itself on explaining everything reasonably while obscuring of course the profound truthfulness of the Word of God! If our "thought" were a computer, it would be like a hard drive full of viruses and worms, an e-mail box full of spam, and programs full of "Trojans" !

My beloved, if we are to live the miraculous, the manifestation of the Kingdom of God on earth with its triumphant procession of healings, deliverances and transformed lives, we have a deep need to fight against the irreligious spirit which is trying to take control of our sanity. We should not "trade it" for a religious spirit but for a spirit of faith and total confidence in what God says in his Word. Jesus IS the Truth ! Even though another would tell us the opposite, let us remain steadfast on His words which will never pass !

The process of metamorphosing our "intelligence" will take time, probably our entire life, but we can move from glory to glory, ever deeper into the knowledge of God and the supernatural universe where He lives forever !
