"The Christian" from Bangladesh (1)

"In 1969, I was 17 years old. My father was an imam, a descendant of a people who came from Afghanistan to Bengal, importing Islam there. I asked a lot of questions to my teachers at the madrasa (Islamic school), but they couldn't answer and made him angry. To make fun of me, one of them called me "the Christian." Having no idea what that meant, I went to see a missionary who answered my questions. I learned who Jesus is and what he did for us. Shortly after, I gave my life to Christ.

When I got home, I told everything to my father. He immediately kicked me out, without even giving me time to pick up some clothes. I was banished from my family and my father disinherited me. I left for Dhaka, the capital, but I had nothing... In 1972, while I was living on the streets, I met another missionary. He invited me to study the Bible with him and supported me for nine months, to instruct me in the faith. Then he invited me to go home and evangelize my people. So I left for the north and joined a Christian church made up mainly of people from the tribes that the Bengalis had driven from their lands. So, being myself Bengali and of Muslim origin, I understood the embarrassment that these believers could converse about me, even if we were now brothers. At that time, I started a Bible study group that was held every morning at 6 o'clock."
