The cleansing power of Christ

Indeed, the blood of goats and bulls as well as the ashes of a cow, which are sprayed on those who are defiled make them holy by providing them with ritual purity. If so, the blood of Christ, who offered Himself to God through the Eternal Spirit as a flawless victim, will further purify your conscience of dead works so that you serve the living God ! Hebrews 9:13, 14

Having a guilty conscience is an experience. Psychologists can define it as a guilt complex and seek to rationalize the feeling of guilt ; but once this has been awakened by the application of the law of God, no explanation will calm the insistent voice of conscience. Many criminals ultimately turned themselves in to the authorities because the charges of guilty conscience were worse than prison bars. The Bible teaches that Christ purifies the conscience. Having a guilty conscience cleared and being freed from constant accusation is an experience, but it is not the cleansing of conscience that saves you ; it is faith in Christ that saves, and a purified conscience is the result of a good relationship with God.
