The coronation
Two men dressed in white appeared to them and said : Galilean men, why are you looking up to heaven ? This Jesus, who was taken up into heaven from among you, will come the same way you saw him go to heaven. Acts of the Apostles 1: 10-11
The ascension of Christ is the supreme intervention of the Heavenly Father, the crowning of the ministry of Jesus. It guarantees all the work done in our favor.
The ascension turns our eyes to the future, which means the intervention of the angels saying : This Jesus, who was taken up into heaven from among you, will come in the same way... The ascension of the Lord and his glorification in God's right hand invites us to make his return the focal point of our thoughts and our conduct.
But, can we actually rejoice at the prospect of the Lord's return, if all of our attention is on the present life ? We settle there as if it were the final home, without however ceasing to complain. However, when we understand what he has in store for those who believe in him and what he will bring when he comes, the things of the earth lose their importance. The wait for that blessed day then takes the place of the vain worries of this earth, at the same time making it possible to overcome them and to live in confidence.
And why not in gratitude for the crown of righteousness which He intends for those who will have loved His coming (2 Timothy 4: 8) ?
