The day of rest
Remember to make the day of rest holy. For 6 days you will work and do whatever you need to do. But the seventh day is the day of rest for the Lord your God. You shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your slave, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor the stranger who dwells with you. For in six days the Lord made the sky, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and he rested on the seventh day. This is why the Lord blessed the day of rest and made it a holy day. Exodus 20:8-11
In our modern culture, many consider the idea of the Sabbath rest to be an archaic concept. To them, Sunday is like any other day. For some, working seven days a week is no problem.
However, other people consider that God's principles are as valid today as they were when he gave the Ten Commandments, and that he was serious when he said that we needed a day. rest.
"Be sure to take time to rest"
Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson was one of them. A general in the Southern Army during the Civil War, he was criticized for observing the day of rest. He replied : "The Sabbath is written in the temperament of man and horses just as much as it is in the Bible. In a week I can make my men walk further, when they walk six days and rest on the seventh, and have men and horses in better condition than if they had walked seven days."
Today, don't think you can be more productive just by working more hours. God is ready to bless you, but to receive His blessings you must live by His Word.
Give it the first place in your life. Devote your time, talents and resources to it. Spend time in his Word. Exercise complete faith and learn to trust Him. And be sure to take time to rest.
A prayer for today
Father, thank you because I can trust you. Help me to enter your rest. Eliminate my stress, anxiety and burdens. I put my worries aside to bring my attention back to you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
