The day you need support

“Lord my God, I turn to You. I trust in You...” Psalm 25. 1-2 Word of Life Version

On the day when you really need support, who or what will you turn to ? Your family, your friends, your tax advisor, your doctor ? But no one will have all the answers. David knew who to turn to in times of need : his Lord and his God (v 1). He knew many of the names of God and what they meant to him : Yahweh-jireh, the Eternal who provides, so he would lack nothing ; Yahweh-Rapha, the Eternal who heals, could also pray for the healing of his diseases (Psalm 103.3) ; Yahweh-Shalom, the Eternal who gives peace, so could he fall asleep without fear of his enemies ; Yhavé-Tsidkenu, the Eternal who brings justice, so he was confident that his right would be recognized ; Yahvé-Rossi, the Eternal who is our shepherd, could therefore be confident that God would protect him and bring him back to the fold if necessary. David professed his trust in God. The promises that God had made to him had been fulfilled or would be fulfilled during his life. He did not doubt God's goodness and compassion for him. He relied on God to lead him and lead him on the right path. During his turbulent life, he had learned that despite the worst circumstances God was always his rock, his fortress, his refuge. Sooner or later He would come to her rescue, always at the right time. Finally he knew how to pray about his future : “Lord, let me know the path to follow, teach me to live as You want. Lead me on the path of Your truth. Teach me, for You are the God who saves me, and I rely on You every day” (v 4-5). Or regarding his past : “Lord, remember Your tenderness and Your love, for they have always been there. Lord, forget the faults of my youth and my sins” (v. 6-7). On the day when you really need support, read Psalm 25 again and heed David's advice. In the presence of your Lord you will find the same support that the king of Israel did !
