The door of eternity

No one escapes the prospect of death. The Bible defines it very simply as "the wages of sin" (Romans 6:23). It teaches us why all men go through death : "for all have sinned". It also specifies that after death comes judgment (verse of the day). In this sense, death approaches us like a bailiff who comes to give us a summons to appear in court. Shouldn't this prospect prompt us to come to terms with God without delay ? Because everyone owes such a heavy debt to God that he cannot pay it off.

This debt, Jesus Christ came to pay for us. On the cross, he suffered the judgment I deserved. If I believe in the value of his sacrifice, God grants me mercy : final receipt that I can present to the usher who knocks at the door. It is therefore urgent to possess it before death, and above all not to despise this gift from God.

Without this letter of grace, I will have to appear before the Supreme Judge to answer for my sins, and hear him pronounce my condemnation.

For the believer, death is like a door from heaven leading to Jesus. His body is placed in the earth while awaiting the resurrection, but his soul is introduced into paradise, in the presence of the Good Shepherd, who took care of him during his life.

The believer, however, does not wait for death, but for Jesus himself, who will soon come to seek his own. Let us live this expectation, thinking of his joy when he finally brings together those he has loved and freed.
