The essential
I taught you first of all, as I had also received it, that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures ; that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. 1 Corinthians 15.3
The apostle Paul was a very religious young man. Appreciated by his masters, he was destined for a bright future. The main thing for him was the religion of his fathers.
We have all learned things that seem essential to us, that we do not want to lose or forget.
However, one area that is generally overlooked, especially in our generation, is that of faith in God. A little because of dechristianization, or the hectic life that makes us content with received ideas, quickly learned, without really thinking.
Yet this is the most important area : if God exists, if the soul does not die, then our eternal future is the essence of our lives !
Paul had a personal encounter with Christ. By reading the Bible, all Christians also have a personal encounter with Jesus.
For Paul, this meeting turned his life upside down. He agreed to reconsider. For him, the essential was no longer a religion, but a person : Jesus Christ.
Above all, Paul was teaching that Jesus died to save us from our sins, that he really did rise again. The person and work of the Lord had become central to his faith. It is also the essence of all true Christians.
What is the essence of your faith ?
