The face of God
Searching the Scriptures
I think about what you said : "Look for my face !" Lord, it is your face that I am looking for. Psalm 27.8
When we pray, we often spend a lot of time presenting to God a list of our needs and all our grievances. But prayer is much more than that. To pray, to be in the presence of God, is to learn to read his face. Is he happy or disappointed with the decision you made ? Is he peaceful while you are running around and worrying ?
King David lived surrounded by enemies his entire life. In this psalm, it is about difficulty, adversity, war, violence.
David's secret to coping ? He was a worshiper, a devotee who loved to be in the presence of his God. He was learning to confide in her his troubles and he would take the time to listen to what God was saying to him. His sadness and dismay suddenly changed to cries of victory and joy when he understood that God had the situation in hand and that nothing could reach him.
God created you to speak with you, to relate to you, to be your friend. When you chat with someone, you watch them closely. Most of the exchange - the emotions, the thoughts, the reactions - is in the facial expression, even more than in the words.
God doesn't look at things the way you can look at them. If you take the time with him, you will be surprised at what you discover and you will avoid harboring many negative emotions that are harmful to your soul.
So, learn to look for his face. Be a worshiper like David. Immerse yourself in his presence. Set aside time. Turn off the screens, cut off all your occupations and concerns. This will allow you to find his face, look into his, and find the hope and comfort you need.
Listen to the voice of God
Let’s take the time to listen to what God means. Look for his face and align with his heart.
Praying is easy. Talk to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer : "Lord, I want to contemplate your face and to discover, to rediscover this intimacy with you. I decide to stand very close to you and to ardently, continually seek your presence and your love."
Praise God
To praise God is to show him our gratitude. What are your subjects of recognition today ? Take a time to thank the Lord.
Act today
Now dig deeper into what you have received. What can you do to apply what God has told you ? Write down the concrete actions you can take.
Honor the Lord
Our route for the day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.
"Lord, I thank you for you created me to be in relationship with you. Yours be the kingdom, the power and the glory. Amen !"
