The faith and the perseverance

"[Elijah] said to his young servant, Go up, look toward the sea, and he goeth up, and looketh, and saith, There is nothing : Elijah saith seven times, Return." 1 Kings 18.43

Elijah had spoken. The drought was coming to an end. So he commanded his servant to go to the side of the sea to see the fulfillment of his prophecy. The servant went, but saw no proof of the truth of his master's words. He did not look just once or twice, but seven times. He had to ask himself if Elijah was not mistaken. But the prophet reassured him every time, telling him to return.

"Whatever the situation you are facing, remember that the Word of God is always true."

On the seventh journey, finally, he distinguished something! But what he saw seemed utterly insignificant. Nothing but a tiny cloud. This, however, was the beginning of the fulfillment of Elijah's prophecy. She was true to the slightest word! And it is accomplished exactly at the right time.

We have probably often experienced this same type of experience. We read the word of God. We hear his voice. We take a step of faith and act in obedience. However, we may not see any immediate realization. Instead of solutions, it seems to us that we have more problems. In the place of victory, we encounter increased opposition, perhaps even defeat.

Under these conditions, one quickly has to give up or lose courage. To give in to anger or despair. We can conclude that we did not hear God correctly. Or that we misinterpreted his words. Or that our faith is vain. At such times, we must remember the importance of faith and obedience, and remember the perseverance of the servant of Elijah.

Whatever the situation you are facing, remember that the Word of God is always true. But it does not necessarily happen according to your schedule. You can trust God and his Word. Act by faith and be persevering. Do not give up if you are facing delays or obstacles. God is faithful. His word is true !

A prayer for today

Father, I give you the following situations : _____. I expect you for the answers I need. I believe in you. Help me to serve you and to live a life that is pleasing to you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
