The Father loves the Son

"This is my beloved Son in whom I have found my pleasure." Matthew 3:17

In his humanity, by perfect obedience, however much it may cost him, the Lord manifested a perfect love for his Father "that the world may know that I love the Father," he declared (John 14. 31). Nothing is more powerful than example !

There was a total communion in love between the Father and the Son. The verses below offer our adoration some insights into this love of the Father for the Son, Son of all eternity, remaining Son in his humanity.

"The Father loves the Son, and put everything into his hands" (John 3:35). In his love, the Father has entrusted all things to the Son: universal domination, but also the fulfillment of his plans, the glorification of all his characters.

"The Father loves the Son and shows him everything he does himself" (John 5:20). It is from the love of the Father that the Son receives the power to perform all things that are under the authority of the Father : to communicate eternal life, to exercise all judgment.

"Because of this the Father loves me, it is that I leave my life so that I may take it back" (John 10:17). It is of his own free will, in a complete identification of his will to love with that of his Father, that the Son offers his life. He thus freely performs the most absolute act of obedience. His death glorifies the Father and gives him new motives to love him.

"As the Father loved me, I also loved you" (John 15: 9). The redeemed, vivified by the Son, on the basis of his death and resurrection, have a place in divine love: the Son loves them as he is loved by the Father. But that's not all !

"You loved them as you loved me ... You loved me before the foundation of the world" (John 17:23, 24). Indeed, the Father loves us as he loved his Son. He loved her before the foundation of the world, for God is love from all eternity : it is the very essence of his being (1 John 4: 8). Yes, the Father, in his love, chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1: 4).

What does the Lord desire for all his redeemed ? "Let the love with which you have loved me be in them, and I in them" (John 17:26).
