The fear of the Eternal, a forgotten treasure

Search the Scriptures

Who is the man who fears the Eternal ? The Lord shows him the way he must choose. His soul shall rest in happiness, and his seed shall possess the land. The friendship of the Eternal is with those who fear him, and his covenant gives them instruction. Psalm 25.12-14

The fear of the Eternal is the treasure that God gives to his children by the Spirit to enable them to stay on the path of life. It is about the respect and seriousness we give to God to walk in obedience.

The fear of the Eternal is one of the seven spirits of God in the book of Isaiah, chapter 11, verse 2. The Word tells us that it is the beginning of wisdom. Indeed, an intelligent and educated man knows that the fear of the Eternal allows him to receive the directions and revelations of God for his life, it allows him to taste happiness, to obtain blessing for his children and to share the friendship with God, the absolute privilege.

During my years in psychology school, I studied statistics on the most effective education for a child. It turned out to be an upbringing based on both love and authority. Love alone or authority alone does not work. We need both to build ourselves.

God, in his perfect nature, manifests these two facets : love and justice. Like a single coin, Jesus too is presented to us in the Gospel of John as being full of grace and truth, both sides.

To grow and bear fruit, we need both types of nutrients : love and fear of the Eternal. We must be able to receive grace, while accepting the truth, which alone sets free.

Listen the voice of God

Did you know the meaning of the fear of the Eternal ? Take the time to listen to what God wants to tell you about this.

Praying is simple. Speak to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer : "Lord, I desire with all my heart to be your friend and to honor you all my life. Help me never to get used to your presence and always to respect you deeply."

Praise God

Are you aware that the Lord Jesus wants to be your friend and that the Holy Spirit within you is the most wonderful guide ? Yet it is our great Creator God ! So show him your gratitude, praise him, praise him and praise him again and again !

Act today

Now, deepen what you have received. If this notion of "fearing the Eternal" makes you uncomfortable, think about who God is, and who you are before him. Think "respect" rather than "fear" and you will see that this notion is simpler and more normal than you thought.

Honor the Lord

Our journey for the day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.

"My Lord and my God, to you be the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever, amen !"
